Download Bureau
An innovative feature of ArgoSphere (which is bound to be copied by other sites) is the Download Bureau.
This allows any of the activities to be downloaded and stored on hard disc to be used at
any time without being connected to the Internet.
This has a number of advantages:
1. You can use the material at any time without needing to use a modem or leave your telephone engaged — invaluable for homes and schools which have only one phone line.
2. Files can be copied onto floppy disc and loaded onto other machines. You can even give the material away to others!!! (Yes, we must be mad.)
3. You don't even need an Internet connection. As long as a machine has a browser, it can use ArgoSphere downloaded material.
4. Anyone who is unfamiliar with the World Wide Web can cut their teeth on ArgoSphere before being let loose on the Internet.
5. Graphics and animations will load immediately so you won't have that aggravating wait for pages to slowly come down the phone line.
6. You won't be hampered by poor or slow connections.
7. You won't have to worry about telephone costs.
8. Many Web users find themselves rushing from page to page to keep their online time to a minimum. With downloaded material you can undertake them at leisure.
9. You can be absolutely certain that your children won't stray into areas that you would prefer them not to visit.
10. There are utilities which allow you to download
complete or partial Web sites but:
(a) there is no guarantee that they will be able to download everything
(b) they cannot tell you how big the download will be (or how long it will take)
(c) they will usually contain links to pages which haven't been downloaded.
None of these problems occur with ArgoSphere. You can choose exactly what you wish to
download; you know how large the files are; you can load them from a menu; and you can be
confident that every activity will run as a stand-alone item.
